History Timeline

1956

Club Formation

Formed in 1956 as Woolwich Town, laying the foundations for what would later become Erith Town FC.

1995

Senior Status Achieved

The club reached the London Spartan League Premier Division in 1995-96, earning senior status and marking a major step forward.

1995

Becoming Erith Town

The club changed its name to Erith Town, reflecting its move to Erith Stadium and establishing a stronger local identity.

1996

Move to the Kent League

After one season in the Spartan Premier Division, the Dockers successfully crossed into the Kent League pyramid.

2000

First Major Progress

The Dockers achieved a then club-best seventh-place finish in 1999-2000 and reached the London Senior Cup Final.

2007

Tompkins Era Begins

Former Fisher Athletic player Mark Tompkins was appointed player-manager midway through the 2006-07 season, beginning an upturn in fortunes.

2008

First Senior Silverware

Erith Town won the Kent League Cup, defeating Hythe Town 1-0 in the final at Folkestone — the club’s first senior trophy.

2009

Another Cup Final

Under Steve O’Boyle, the Dockers returned to the Kent League Cup Final but lost on penalties to Croydon after a 1-1 draw.

2011

Kent Senior Trophy Victory

Tony Russell guided the club to Kent Senior Trophy success with a 3-1 final win over Tunbridge Wells.

2012

New League Best

The Dockers achieved a new highest finish of fourth place before Tony Russell departed for VCD Athletic.

2013

Another Strong Campaign

Mark Tompkins returned and led Erith Town to a new club-best third-place finish, repeated again in 2013-14.

2015

Relegation Escape

A turbulent season saw three managers, before Martin and Joe Ford guided the Dockers to survival in dramatic fashion.

2017

New Leadership

Mark Deveney took over the club in summer 2017 and appointed long-serving figure Albert Putnam as Club President.

2017

Griffin Park Farewell

On 26 August 2017, Erith Town played in the final ever match at Brentford’s Griffin Park, losing 6-3 in the London Senior Cup semi-final.

2023

Move to Bayliss Avenue

After finishing fourth in 2022-23, the Dockers moved to groundshare with Sporting Club Thamesmead to support future growth.

2023

Historic Appointment

Kay Deveney became the club’s first female Chair, with Mark Deveney continuing as CEO.

2024

Most Successful Season Ever

The Dockers enjoyed the greatest season in club history: SCEFL Challenge Cup winners Kent Senior Trophy winners SCEFL Play-Off Final winners Promotion to the Isthmian League South East secured Step 4 football for the first time.
